Confidence Or Arrogance

Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.

Hebrews 10:35

There are “can do” people and there are “can do it better than you every day with my arms tied behind my back” people!

There is a significant difference between confidence and arrogance!

As recorded in the Old Testament of the Bible, the ancient people of Israel were miraculously delivered from slavery in Egypt. As they approached the region God promised to give them, Moses, at God’s direction, sent a leader from each of the twelve tribes to spy out the land (Numbers 13:1). They returned with glowing tales of abundance and beauty but also reported intimidating giants that were deemed by the majority to be unconquerable by desert wanderers such as themselves.

The dramatic report generated fear in the assembly, and they turned on Moses their leader, accusing Him of bringing them to an impregnable place to die. During the drama and panic, two members of the spy team, Joshua and Caleb, spoke to the people, “If the Lord delights in us, He will bring us into this land and give it to us… do not rebel against the Lord and do not fear the people of the land” (Numbers 14:8-9). The confidence these two men had in God contributed to the fledgling nation finding a home that still exists in part today!

Fear focuses on a human lack of ability, but God blesses those who choose to place their confidence in HIS character and strength! If you know Biblical history, then you know Joshua and Caleb were the only two of the twelve spies to eventually possess a piece of that wonderful land. Where are you placing your confidence for America’s future, in armies and wealth or in God?
