Confidence

We who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. – Hebrews 6:18

Psychologists will tell you that confidence is not an innate, fixed human characteristic, but that it is an ability that can be acquired and improved over time. It is a belief – a conviction – that life’s challenges can be met, and success can be had. They will tell you confidence begins with self. Theologians, on the other hand, assert that true confidence comes from God.

Most of the confidence that you have comes from seeing God keep His promises. He has promised never to leave you, and He hasn’t. If you don’t have confidence in His presence, then who moved? A focus on Him provides confidence in the sufficiency of His grace, His mercy, and His peace. Confidence comes as well from the assurance that He guides you by the Holy Spirit. He has also given you the confidence of eternity with Him through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

In addition, the Lord wants you to have the confidence that He hears and answers prayers. “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us” (1 John 5:14). That being the case, as you pray today ask that, if it is His will, He would usher in restoration of Biblical values and a core belief in Him, His Son Jesus, and His teachings in this world today.
