The word complement is not in the bible but Webster's dictionary defines it as
1. An expression of praise, commendation, or admiration: A sincere compliment boosts one's morale.
2. A formal act or expression of civility, respect, or regard: The mayor paid him the compliment of escorting him.
3. Compliments, a courteous greeting; good wishes; regards: He sends you his compliments.
4. Archaic . a gift; present.
However, Flattery is only used twice in the NKJV and it means to be smooth or seductive. The excessive insincere words of another. So How do you know them apart because the words can be the same? As believers, we need to be able to discern between good and evil .
1Ki 3:9"Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"
Having our senses exercised in the Greek, to train them up.
Hbr 5:14But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, [that is], those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
