Are You a Whoever

Whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Hebrews 11:6

The prophet Jeremiah lived during a tumultuous time in Hebrew history. He quoted God as he penned the promise, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). Through the ages, many have clung to that promise unaware of a small word that changes its meaning significantly. What does it mean to seek God with ALL your heart?

Instead of a checklist of accomplishments, God gives you the narratives of real-life people wholeheartedly seeking Him. Noah built an ark in obedience to God’s plan even though he had never seen rain! Moses refused lavish riches and the status of being called Pharaoh’s son to join slaves in building God’s nation on Earth. These stories provide examples that may speak into your own circumstances. What faith choices has God called you to make?

Jesus summed up what “seeking” God actually means: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it“ (Matthew 16:24-25).
